So....you want a counter for your Caprok.net website? I have expressed my feelings about counters to some of you but I know the counts (although highly inaccurate) are comforting to site owners. Keep these things in mind...the counter will not always increment if the page it is on has been previously cached by that visitor. Therefore..."hits" counted by your counter will probably be on the LOW side, as most people DO cache.The visitors that do not cache may increment the counter every time they link back to your page.
Since I'm probably not going to talk you out of a hit counter anyway...here they are for your counting pleasure..

Here are examples of the code you need to paste on your page to use the Caprok.net counter
cgi. .Just cut and paste one of the code snippets below into your pages HTML,
substituting your own countername and picking a stylename to use.
1.Select a STYLENAME name from the style chart above.
2.Choose a COUNTERNAME for your counter. (Lower case) (anything you like but unique)
3. Substitute your countername and stylename with the ones you choose to use.
4.Set the number of digits showing by changing the width value to a higher or lower number.
5. Don't change anything else in the code then paste the code onto your home page

Q. I'm getting strange results with the readout of my counter. I started with a count of 1000 and an hour later when I came back to my page it was 3. What's the problem.?
A. You have probably picked a countername already in use by someone else.. Change your script countername to something different. (This will reset the count to "0" ) For example: Your first Initial and middle initial and last name would be a good unique countername. Please do NOT use your dial-up account or FTP user name or password. If you like, we can assign a "countername" for you. Call customer support.
Q My friend tried to use this counter on his website and he gets an error. What happened.?
A. If he has a website on a server other than caprok.net, he will NOT be able to use this counter. These counters are for Caprok.net customers only. Have your friend call us and set up an account with us.
Q My counter does not work. I get a broken image symbol on my page. What's wrong?
A.Make sure your script is set up exactly like the samples on this page. If you changed your script to use a different stylename make sure you spelled it right (use the style chart on this page to check spellings of the available stylenames.) Make sure the stylename and countername is entered in Lower Case.
Q Can you help me install a counter on my home page?
A Yes. Call or Email [email protected] and tell us what page you want your counter installed on and what style counter you would like to use. We will set it up for you.... no charge. (NOTE: once the html is setup on your page you can move it around as you like, as long as you don't change it.)
Q. Is it possible to start my counter at any number I want?
A Yes...but we have to do it for you. Email support above and give us your countername and the number you want seeded in your counter
Q What should I use for my countername?
A. Anything you like, at least 4 characters (lowercase). Please use something unique so your counter will not be interfered with, by someone else's counter.
Q Is there anything else I can customize on my counter?
A Yes. The digits can be custom made by you but they must be all the same size. (you may pick the size) 20 x 30 pixels is Max. Each digit should be in gif format. The file names should be: 0.gif, 1.gif, 2.gif etc. We will have to install them for you. You can also set the width (number of digits showing) by changing the width in the script to a higher or lower number. We can also set a starting number for your counter.
Q I just re-designed my pages and I want to re-set my counter to zero. How do I do that?
A. Simply change your countername to something new (add a "1") to the end of your existing countername.
Q Can I use more than one counter on my pages, like one on each page?
A You may use ONE counter on your homepages ONLY. If you have a special need to add an additional counter PLEASE contact support for permission. Each time a counter is "hit" the server must execute a cgi script. An excessive use of counters may slow the server at critical times and cause problems. Persons using more than 1 counter without permission may force us to remove them without notice. Besides, it is a very rare circumstance that would require more than 1 counter anyway. People who have their own virtual domains on our server get detailed statistics that are far more accurate and detailed than a hit counter anyway.
