Frugal Low Carb

First a little background about why I am putting up this page.   There are plenty of other tightwad and frugal sites out there, but I found one area that had been neglected.  You see, I am a LC'er.  LC stands for low carbohydrate.  It is a way of eating that I am totally convinced is the healthiest way to live and by far the best way to lose weight.  It is also been proven to lower cholesterol, high blood pressure, help or even cure arthritis, and control diabetes.  I eat  mostly meat.   Most of my food is real food produced with a minimal amount of technology.  I don't eat grains, or sugar, or starches in any form.   My food pyramid is totally upside down from what the mainstream nutritionists advise.   The problem with most frugal sites is when they offer food ideas or recipes, they support the typical high carbohydrate/low fat food pyramid. Many people think that a LC diet is expensive.   I am going to prove them wrong.  It is quite possible to eat a lot of meat without spending more money for food.  Actually, since starting a LC plan, my grocery bill has gone down.  I no longer by "special" foods that I once thought were necessary to lose weight.  I buy REAL FOOD shopping mostly the perimeter of the store.

To learn more about LC and the health benefits, go to the  links  page scroll to the LC listings and read all about it.

Some Background

Now a little background about myself and why I think I am qualified to give money saving advice.  I grew up in rural West Texas. It was a 30 minute drive to town in the car, and an hour by school bus.  Throughout my childhood, we raised our own chickens, pigs, calves, rabbits and vegetables.  We got fresh eggs from the chickens, and milk, cream and butter from the milk cow and learned to live on what we had.  There wasn't a fast food place around the corner.  When we had too many roosters or a hen got too old to lay, it was time to eat the chicken.   When the cow had a calf, we would raise it to butchering size and then fill the freezer with beef. The rabbits and pigs were raised specifically for their meat.  We never made a quick trip to the store.  I was taught to keep a good supply of staples on hand, make substitutions or make do with what we had.  I survived my childhood very well without having sodas, fancy cereals, and speciality foods everyday.  We did have those items, but they were treats and not everyday fare.

As an adult,  I have also survived motherhood, widowhood, substitute teaching, owning, managing and working in a machine shops, oil booms and busts in West Texas, unemployment, below minimum wage jobs and just a few other minor and major crises' during my 45+  years on this earth.   My income has almost always been within the government's idea of poverty level, however I own land, a house, a mini van, a classic pick-up and have bought vehicles for my 3 children. I have never had anything repossessed,  have not filed for bankruptcy, or resorted to food stamps or welfare.   When money gets tight, it is time to get creative.  I will be the first to admit that my stuff is not the best, or the most expensive, or the fanciest, but it suits me just fine thank you very much!  Sure there are improvements I need to make on the house and it is time to trade off my van for a newer vehicle, but those are goals to work toward.  If we didn't have something to work for, wouldn't life be boring?

The goal for this site is to share my money saving strategies of how to buy plenty of meat and still stay within a budget.  I also have some tips in other areas to help you save money. The more money you save in other areas, the more meat you can buy...:)  I realize that not all tips will work for all people.   If you have any tips that you would like to see posted on this  site, you can email  me and I will review your suggestions.  One more note before we get down to business, if you have never read the Tightwad Gazettes I, II , and III by Amy Dacyczyn, you should put them on your MUST READ list.  They are available at most libraries.  I think Amy herself would approve if you checked them out for free for the first reading.  I am positive that once you read them, you will want to have your own copies.

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way associated with Amy Dacyczyn or any of her book sellers.  I am just a fan.  I don't claim to know all the answers.  I am continually learning more myself.  Some of the tips on these pages are my original ideas, but I don't claim to be the originator of ALL the ideas posted on the pages, just the organizer.
