Using an FTP Client to upload Pages to your Website

You will need 2 programs in order to transfer your website's pages to your site on the Caprok.net FTP server. You may also print this page out for future reference.

An FTP Client ( FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol )

An UNZIP program. (Used to unpack files that are downloaded with a .zip extension)

Follow the procedure below to download your copies of the 2 programs.

1. Start your browser and go online to Caprok.Net homepage : http://www.caprok.net/

2. On the Caprok.Net homepage, you will  find a button that says "Help Center".. click it. When you get to the help Center Page, click on the button that says "Useful Software" .

3. You will then be taken to a page called USEFUL SOFTWARE. Find the button that says WS-FTP CLIENT and click it. Once you get to the download site, find the software version for your operating system and click on it's Download button.
4. When a dialog box appears on your screen prompting you to save the file, click on "ok"
5. A window will then appear showing the progress of the download.  Be sure to write down the directory on your hard drive the file is being saved to.
6. Now that you have stored WS_FTP on your hard drive you will need a copy of WinZip on your computer to unzip it. Download it now as in steps 2 through 5 above.

The 2 needed files should now be stored on your hard drive. First we need the WinZip Program.

7. Using the Windows Explorer or the file manager, go to the directory/folder where the downloaded WinZip program was stored (remember, you were supposed to write down the directory/folder name it was saved to), and double click on the winzip file to start the  "setup" program. The setup program is interactive and will guide you through the installation process. The WinZip program will now be uncompressed and it will also install a shortcut icon on your desktop..

8. When finished, there should be a WinZip icon on your computer's desktop. Double click it to start WinZip.

9. Using Winzip, find ,unzip and install the WS_FTP CLIENT program.
