This is the line that started Teds winning tradition. The typical representative of this line is very large with a pitch-black HB body and canary-yellow to butter-yellow finnage. The contrast of the yellow and black seems to act as a magnet and the H/B yellow strains are usually the first fish our fish-room visitors walk to. This strain is vigorous, very prolific, and easy to raise. Those qualities combined with consistant bench success earn it Teds recommendation for novices and advanced breeders alike. Strain 2 is a little smaller than Strain 1, but breed true-to-type medium-to-large males of exceptional show quality, and result in fry of an exceptionally striking canary-yellow to black contrast. The HB bodies of this strain are not quite as dark of the parent Strain 1, but the gold bodies of this strain offer an unusual color balance with the yellow caudals and dorsals. Its superior shape, fin size, and color balance earn consistant show honors -- and because it shares so many of the Strain 1 virtues, it also has Teds recommendation for both novice and advanced breeders |

These less-black half-black yellows are a work in progress -- maybe you can be the first to bring this exceptional guppy to show-quality coloration. The typical male still has too much black in the body to show as a normal yellow, and the black is too pale to win as a HB yellow. Individuals may vary and give you show stock of either variety, but exceptional individuals are not the mark of excellence consistant drops are. The reason Ted decided to sell some of these is that he believes they are the future for non HB gold bodied yellows. They are exceptionally large and well shaped for gold-bodied yellows and support extraordinary finnage. Working the black out does not seem to be compromising these virtues, but because this is a work in progress Ted is only willing to recommend this strain to advanced breeders and thinks that novice breeders should stay with the better-fixed Strain 1 or Strain 2 prize winners. |
