How
to Order Show Guppies
|
|||||||||||||||
Ordering
is simple. Check the availability of your desired strain here,
or call Ted to ensure stock availability. Then just send a check or
money order to cover the purchase and shipping. Please include in the
envelope exactly what you ordered, the address which you would like
the guppies shipped to, and your order number if one was given to you.
We recommend money orders because we hold fish orders until checks clear,
and this can result in a delay of as much as two weeks. Fish are usually
shipped on Mondays or Tuesdays. Currently we don't except credit cards,
but Ted is working on making this a convenience for everyone. We only
use the US Postal Service and the standard shipping charge covers Express
Next-Day Delivery. The Postal Service does not guarantee next day delivery
to all locations, but exceptions are rare and even the exceptions have
not been problems in the past. When weather permits, guppies can also
be shipped Priority Mail, Second or Third Day Delivery. This is less
expensive; e-mail Ted Dix for these arrangements and charges. If availability
changes between the time you check availability and send your order,
don't worry. If we cannot fill your order with quality guppies within
two weeks of receiving it, we will send you a full refund.

Receiving Your GuppiesWhat to do once you receive your guppies in the mail, read carefully! Top |
|||||||||||||||
When
your new guppies arrive, look them over. Remember, here at LoneStar
Guppy Hatchery we don't just guarantee live arrival, we guarantee your
satisfaction. Once satisfied, open the bag and place your new guppies
(and the water they were shipped in) in a clean specimen container with
a capacity of approximately one quart or more. Every twenty to thirty
minutes add about 1/4 cup of water from the tank they're going to live
in. When the container nears full, pour out about half of the water
and repeat the process. When the container has been half emptied and
then refilled twice, your new guppies will be ready for their new home.
(Don't forget to acclimate for temperature as you would with any fish.)
If you are planning to raise show-quality guppies, Ted recommends using
a 5-gallon breeding tank, but under the best of conditions the fish
will probably be frightened and try to hide. This is normal behavior,
and it may take as much as a week for them to act normally. Do
not
feed during the first 24 hours; the fish won't eat normally, and even
your system would be upset if you were put in a dark box and shipped
cross country to a total stranger. Give them time to calm down to avoid
complications.

Enjoying and Improving your GuppiesJust a thought from me Top |
|||||||||||||||
Improving
and/or maintaining your strains is up to you. Results will vary with
care, water conditions, and other factors; but if you pick a reputable
breeder that's proven his stock on the show bench (like us), you can
enjoy your guppies for many years to come. There are breeders that do
quite nicely breeding guppies for profit, and you may desire to do the
same; but for most of us guppies are a hobby. Whether your goal is simply
an interesting conversation piece for the living room, or whether you
have more ambitious aspirations, guppies can improve your social life.
Joining a guppy club or showing your guppies at sanctioned shows provide
a wonderful method of meeting new people and sharing a common interest,
as well as putting you in the best possible position to find guppies
with exactly the attributes you might want to improve your stock. Enjoy
guppies in the manner that suits you, and remember that regardless of
where you buy your guppies the people at the LoneStar Guppy Hatchery
are here to help. If you need any help, please don't hesitate to E-mail
Ted or leave a message in the Forum, Ted will personally answer all
of your questions, remember, information is always free at Lonestar
