- What's the difference between Forward and Redirect?
- Let's assume Person A sends a message to Person B who wants to forward it
to Person C. The difference between Forward and Redirect affects how
that message will appear to Person C.
Using Forward:
- The text will have the > symbols indicating quoted text
- The From: line in the header says the message is from Person B
Using Redirect:
- There will be no > symbols
- The From: line in the header says the message is from Person A !!
Redirect can create confusion. When Person C replies to a redirected
message, it goes back to Person A . Redirect should only be used when: Person
B clearly inserts his or her own text at the beginning of the message so that Person
C is very aware that it is a forwarded message and NOT a message from Person
A to Person C.
In general, I avoid Redirect for the confusion it can cause to Person C.
If Person C is using Pine instead of Eudora, there will be nothing in the header to
indicate that the message was sent "by way of Person B" (the note that
Eudora inserts into the From: line in the header.)
If you want to forward a message without the > symbols, simply copy the
entire text of the message (Ctrl-Home, then Ctrl-Shift-End then Ctrl - C)
and paste it (Ctrl V) into a new message addressed to Person C.
