GERNERAL LIVESTOCK SHOW RULES

  1. Entry deadline Postmarked August 28, 1998. LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED WITH A $10.00 PENALTY PER ENTRY. SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER OF EXHIBITOR MUST BE ON ENTRY CARDS. No limit on number of entries. Anyone (adult or youth) may enter Open Shows. Entry fees must accompany entries as follows:
    Breeding sheep, lambs, goats, swine $10.00 per entry
    Steers and heifers $20.00 per entry
    Santa Gertrudis $20.00 per entry
    Late entry penalty on above $10.00 per entry

    Poultry $ 1.50 per bird
    Rabbits $ 2.00 per rabbit
    Sheep Dog Trials $20.00 per entry

    All entry fees plus added monies will be distributed back to the exhibitor in each livestock division. No refund on entry fees. ALL ENTRY FEES RETURNED AS PRIZE MONEY.

  4. All reasonable precautions will be taken to protect the property and exhibits of the concessionaires and exhibitors and security guards will be on duty nightly. However, the Permian Basin Fair & Exposition or Ector Co. assumes no responsibility of the care, custody or control of any exhibitors livestock or the exhibitors equipment.
  5. Decision of the classifier and judge of each division will be final. Any animal classified out of the class in which he is entered will be moved to the appropriate class by the classifier. The decision of the classifier and/or sifter will be final and protests will not be considered. Any objection or interference by an exhibitor, parent, agent or teacher may cause immediate removal of livestock and parties involved from the fair grounds and barred from future shows.
  6. Plaques or trophies will be awarded to breed Champions and Reserve breed Champions and trophies or trophy buckles will be awarded to the Grand and Reserve Grand Champions of a division.
  7. Showmanship buckles will be awarded to the Champion and Reserve Champion Showman for beef, lamb, goat and hog. Showmanship exhibitors will be chosen from each class of a division to return to participate in the Showmanship contest. Showmanship exhibitors must enter either the lamb, goat, hog, steer or heifer division and be wearing their own exhibitor number.
  8. Livestock washing allowed only in wash racks. No livestock washing allowed in barns or outside.
  9. No trimming stalls or blocking tables will be allowed on the east side of the livestock barns. They will be allowed on the west, north, and south sides of the barns.
  10. This is not a terminal show, therefore accurate and adequate health papers must accompany livestock. Health papers will be checked at the gate. Consult the Texas Animal Health Commission Requirements for entry of livestock and poultry in Shows, Fairs, and Exhibitions.

    SUMMARY OF HEALTH PAPER REQUIREMENTS

    Horses Current Coggins Test & Health Papers
    Lambs, Steers, Hogs, Goats Health Papers
    Heifers 4-10 months – Brucellosis vaccination & health papers
    24 months or older (if registered) – Negative TB within six
    months if not from an accredited TB state
    24 months or older & not vaccinated – Brucellosis test & health papers
    Bulls 18 months & older – Brucellosis test, health papers, & negative TB within six
    months unless from an accredited state
    Poultry Must originate from flocks or hatcheries free of pullorum disease & fowl typhoid or have a negative pullorum-typhoid test within thirty days before exhibition
    Dogs Health papers showing current Rabies Vaccination

      All livestock and poultry entering from out of state must meet this state’s entry requirements. If you have any questions regarding health papers contact: Texas Animal Health Commission (512) 719-0777.    

10. Absolutely no selling of livestock, rabbits or poultry on the fairgrounds.

11. Show animals are expected to be trained to lead easily and handle properly through      prcessing and in the show ring. Any animal determined to be unruly by a show superintendent may be removed from the show.

12. No livestock, rabbits or poultry will be allowed to be removed from the grounds before release time and/or without a written release from a designated Farming & Ranching division official.

13. No dogs are allowed on the grounds, except seeing eye dogs and sheep dogs entered in the sheep dog trials show. Sheep dogs are restricted to the show area.

14. The Ector County Coliseum ground is a licensed premises. No alcohol is allowed to be brought onto the grounds.

15. The Permian Basin Fair reserves the right to the interpretation of these rules by the Farming & Ranching Division Executive Committee. They reserve the right to make any changes they deem necessary, and to substitute another judge in case the judges listed are unable to attend.

JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SHOW SPECIAL RULES

  1. Steer, heifer, lamb, and goat shows are junior shows, and are TCCA, TCLA, and JMGC sanctioned. These shows are open to any 4-H or FFA member in the State of Texas who is 9 years old or in the 3rd grade, but not more than 19 years old and has not graduated from high school. There is no Pee Wee Division in the junior livestock shows. Anyone can enter Open Shows.
  2. All entries must be exhibited by the owner, except when a boy or girl has more than one entry in one class. In this case, any other 4-H or FFA member taking part in this Show may exhibit these animals.

PERMIAN BASIN FAIR & EXPOSTION
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The Permian Basin Fair & Exposition will give eight $1,000.00 scholarships to senior exhibitors in the livestock division. To be eligible for a scholarship the applicant must comply with the following guidelines:

  1. Be an active member of the Future Farmers of America, or 4-H Program and exhibiting in the current fair. Should an exhibitor not show in the Permian Basin Fair after making application his/her application will be void.
  2. The applicant must be a senior in high school when making application and also must have been in the top � of the class the previous school year (junior year).
  3. Applicants can be selected from only one market division-Steer/Heifer, Lamb, Goat, or Swine, but can enter in each division if showing in that division. Junior Breeding Heifer exhibitors will be in the Steer Division and Junior Breeding Sheep exhibitors will be in the Lamb Division. The scholarship committee may award more than one scholarship per division or no scholarship per division depending on the strength of the applicants.
  4. Turn in a complete application (with picture) and a two page narrative of the applicant's activities, including the kind of projects and scope of each, leadership and citizenship activities, interest in advance education and future plans.
  5. Be able to attend an interview with the scholarship committee. Applicants selected for an interview will be contacted as soon as possible to set up an interview time on September 12th for steer/heifer, and goat applicants, September 13th for lamb applicants and September 19th for swine applicants. We will make an effort to contact all applicants to inform them if they were selected for an interview.
  6. Scholarship funds will be sent to the winners of the scholarships upon receipt of proper documentation. Winners must send an itemized receipt to Permian Basin Fair Scholarship Board, P.O. 4812, Odessa, TX 79760. The funds are to reimburse the student for their tuition, fees, or both, in the amount not to exceed the total specified sum of $1,000.00 after entrance verification.
  7. Scholarship winners will be selected based on:
    a. scholastic achievement
    b. school and community activities
    c. senior
  8. Scholarship winner must attend college the Fall Semester after graduation.
