Voter Registration and Election Information
for
Midland, Texas

Who may vote?

Citizens of the
U.S. who are 18 years of age on Election Day are eligible to vote. You must be registered in your county of residence at least 30 days prior to Election Day, and not convicted of a felony or held mentally incompetent by a court.  Felons who have completed their entire sentence, including probation, may apply to have their voting privileges restored.

How do I register?

You may register at any time. Postage-free applications are available at the Midland County Library, the Department of Public Safety, the Voter Registrar’s Office, or at many other public places. You may also request forms from the Registrar’s Office by phone (688-4890).

How do I know I’m registered?

You will receive your card within 30 days after you apply. You will get a new card every 2 years, as long as you don’t move. New cards are not forwarded.  Current cards are light blue.

What if I move or change my name?

Update your registration by noting changes on your card (directions are on the back of the card) and mail it to the Voter Registrar’s Office. Changes must be received 30 days prior to an election. You may also send in a new application if you can’t find your old card. If you move in the same county, you may vote a full ballot at your previous precinct if your registration is not yet effective for your new address. If you move to a different county, you must register with the new county. You won’t be able to use your old address to vote by mail or on Election Day in your new county.

Where do I go to vote?

Your Precinct Number determines where you vote. Look for the number just above your name on your card. Polling locations for each precinct are listed in the newspaper on Election Day, or you can locate your polling location on the Midland County Elections and Voting Information Site

How do I vote by mail or vote early?

Any registered voter may vote early in person in Texas. Early voting begins 17 days and ends 4 days before the election. Early voting places are printed in the newspaper. You may also vote by mail if you will be out of town during the early voting period and on Election Day, or if you can’t vote at your polling place on Election day because of illness, disability, age (65 or older), or confinement in jail (other than for a felony). Call the Registrar for an application to vote by mail; the application form for a ballot by mail must be sent in to the Voter Registrar’s Office no later than seven days prior to Election Day. Your ballot must be received before polls close on Election Day.
