THE HISTORY OF ST. ANDREW

The beginning of St. Andrew Cumberland Presbyterian Church goes back to the year 1954, when Mr. and Mrs. Jack Haynie and their son, Lewis, came to Odessa from Olney, Texas. They immediately began to arouse interest in Presbytery for a church to be formed in Odessa.  Finally, on April 18, 1954, the Haynie’s and three families held the first service at 1400 South Lee, which was then the Travis Elementary School. Later, a Commission from Presbytery came to Odessa on June 9, 1954 to formally organize the church.  As the church grew it was evident that relocation was needed. In January of 1958 the property at 1415 North Grandview was purchased. The rest is a history of dedicated service, outstanding leadership, and a dedication to following the will of the Lord.
