A rather large chunk of what I think was Pecan found it's
way to me one fine summer. It used to live on my brother-in-laws lawn before winds took it
down. It had started to rot (see the coloring?) but it wasn't too bad to carve; it took on
a great finish. It's a Gray Reef Shark, and the Ebony base is ment to represent the
black sands off Maui, Hawaii. It was carved for my mom and dad for Christmas. We stuck a
miniature Santa hat on him to make him look more festive, and to avoid wrapping it. The
shark itself is 2 foot long.
I finished it with tung oil.
It's currently in Arbortech's online woodcarving
competition. Voting is set to begin in August.
