Above you will see a Black Chinned Hummingbird sipping nectar from just one of my many backyard plants that attracts them. The image above on the right is of a White Winged Dove visiting one of my ponds for a drink of water. Both of these images were taken using my Canon EOS A2 camera and the Tokina 400mm f/5.6 lens.
The image at the bottom is of a Black Legged Kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla ) who was way off course in December of 1997. This is an oceanic gull type bird which is very rare or casual in most inland states as its normal range is in the northern parts of the northern hemisphere. It was spotted right here in West Texas at a pond within the city limits by a group of local birders. I used my Canon EOS Elan IIe and the 75-300mm zoom lens to follow and autofocus on this bird as it flew in large circles around the pond.
